Riot Games Wins the GDC Online Choice Online Audience Award! Posted: 09 Oct 2010 08:49 AM PDT We here at Riot Games are pleased to announce that we have emerged victorious as the Choice Online Audience Award winner. Additionally, we also picked up another few awards, including: Best Online Game Design, Best Visual Arts, Best Online Technology, and Best New Online Game. And so, to thank you all for your support, we just wanted to officially announce, that beginning October 9th until Sunday, October 10 at Midnight Pacific Time, all champions will be free-to-play. Additionally, over the course of the next few days, all summoners will be receiving a 4 Win IP boost. All boosts should be distributed by Wednesday the 13th, so if you haven't received yours, yet, don't panic! They're on their way. But the fight's not over yet! We're still nominated for Online Game of the Year in the Golden Joystick Awards, and we want to keep celebrating. If you'd like to pick up another free champion weekend, along with another boost, you can head over to the Golden Joystick Awards website and select League of Legends as your vote for Online Game of the Year. Posted: 09 Oct 2010 08:34 AM PDT We've seen many awesome ideas and strategies come out from our summoners, with countless posts tucked away in their relevant forums. How would you like your audience to be not just on the forums, but the entire League of Legends community at large?! Winning entries in the Valoran Video contest have the potential to be featured on our Learning Center and New User Guide, as well as receive a cool 5000 Riot Points! Your task is to introduce new players to League of Legends through a variety of 60 second video topics!
We will be accepting submissions until October 25, 2010, so double-time it over to your minimap, lane, or elsewhere! The two winning videos will each receive 5000 Riot Points as well as the chance to be featured in our Learning Center as one of the featured videos! Submit your entries with a link to the video(s), your summoner name, and the server you play on to contests@riotgames.com by October 25. If you want to check out the official rules, they're right here and here. Here's a few tips to get you started:
We're including Europe in the contest, so the submissions aren't limited to English only. |

Self-Moderation - By the Community, for the Community! Posted: 09 Oct 2010 08:22 AM PDT Ahoy all, As you can see under every post there are thumbs-up and thumbs-down symbols. These two brilliant buttons are more than just a touch of colourful fantasy amidst an ocean of beige: they're the key to not only letting us know what you like or dislike, but also for the community to really take the reins of its destiny and say to the world "Here we stand, and this is our community." This cool self-moderation tool is very simple to use: if enough people dislike a post then it becomes hidden, and if enough people dislike the first post in a thread then that thread becomes locked. Simple and effective! But if the red button is cool, the green one is cooler! First of all, the more thumbs up a post gets the less likely it is to be keelhauled. Second, if you give the thumbs-up to post or threads you think bring value to the community, you increase its impact! Just a few things to bear in mind when you're using the system, this is your community and while we're never going to remove anything because it's an unpopular opinion we'll lurking in the shadows, purging the forums from racist and xenophobic content! It's your place to moderate! |
