GDN present Grimm's Crossing Strategy Guide

Introduction:

Grimm's Crossing, the new 3v3 map for Heroes of Newerth, is all about action and quickly asserting your dominance over your opponents. Grimm's is a Match Making map, so learning and mastering it will lead to great rewards. This guide will give you a strategic leg-up over your peers and provide insight into some of the smaller nuances of Grimm's Crossing. The guide will be delivered in three segments: the first will focus on which heroes the map favors, the second will detail successful play behavior on Grimm's, and the third will go in-depth about important minutiae such as ward placement and map-specific tricks.


Part I: Favored Heroes:

Grimm's Crossing, with its small size and focus on action from start to finish, naturally favors certain types of heroes over others. Hard carry late-game heroes won't have the alone-time or the time at all to sit and farm their core items, while early-game nukers and disablers will see their effectiveness magnified and prolonged. This section of the guide will aim to highlight the heroes that excel on this map, as well as single out some of those that would be better left on Forests of Caldavar.

Top Tier:

  • Valkyrie
  • Bubbles
  • Pollywog Priest
  • Hellbringer
  • Doctor Repulsor
  • Defiler
  • Witch Slayer
  • Swiftblade
  • Pharaoh
A couple of common themes have landed the heroes above in the Grimm's Crossing top tier list. Pushing is extremely effective because the map is small and has only two lanes and one outer tower per lane. As a result, Pollywog, Defiler, and Hellbringer are some of the most appealing options out there. On a small map Mobility is more powerful than on Forests of Caldavar which means that some of the most effective mobile heroes in the game reign supreme on Grimm's - think Valkyrie, Bubbles, Pharaoh, and Doctor Repulsor. Witch Slayer earns his spot with his impressive arsenal of disables and spike damage, while Swiftblade utilizes the map's many tree paths to ensure that surprise is always on the agenda.


Heavily Favored Tier:

  • Pyromancer
  • Moraxus
  • Deadwood
  • Devourer
  • Succubus
  • Keeper of the Forest
  • Thunderbringer
  • Blacksmith
  • Slither
  • Chipper
  • Wretched Hag
  • Bloodhunter
  • Kraken
The following attributes are incredibly valuable on maps with fewer players, most notably Grimm's: disables, mobility, early-game spike damage, pushing ability, and tanking ability. The heroes listed above boast either exceptional standing in one of those traits or have a healthy mix of several of them. Keeper of the Forest conveys a unique advantage with his Tree Sight, which will give a huge territory advantage in the all-important middle section of the map.

Crap Tier:

  • Scout
  • Sand Wraith
  • War Beast
  • Vindicator
Farm dependency, check. Lack of hard disables, check. Fragility, check. Needing to chase enemies for an extended period of time to land a kill, check. You'll have your work cut out for you with these heroes on Grimm's Crossing.
Hero selection is a very important part of succeeding in Heroes of Newerth as it sets up your team, but you still have to execute and adapt to game flow to win. Dampeer - Next Upcoming Hero

The Heroes of Newerth team will be launching a new hero called Dampeer this Wednesday, and we got the exclusive first look at him thanks to the folks at S2 Games. Here's the 411:



Dampeer
Do I... dazzle you?




In the darkest days of the war, when starvation stalked the land, it is said that some men turned to eating the flesh of the dead -- and then, the flesh of the living. Perhaps that is the origin of Dampeer, a monster who feeds on the lifeforce of his foes, spreading terror before his tattered wings, his pants the only remnants of his humanity.
Abilities:

Terrorize: Dampeer instills terror within nearby foes, damaging them and causing them to run around like headless chickens.





Vampiric Flight: Dampeer takes flight toward his target enemy, damaging and stealing life from foes he passes through.





Bloodthirst: Dampeer and nearby allies gain lifesteal on attacks.





Consume: Dampeer takes a massive bite of an enemy's flesh, inflicting damage and healing himself for the damage dealt.




Dampeer is coming to a Newerth near you to find his Bella on Wednesday, Dec. 22nd 2010.

Note : For me, his 1st skill, is just like Maliken ulti effect, and his ultimate is just like Devourer with SoTM, his 3rd skill, like the vampiric aura.Also his 2nd skill, like Maliken green sword throw.
So, nothing really new in this Dampeer Cullen, why no more port now?
